Today's Issues

Parent Trigger (House Bill 123)

An integral part of improving education in Georgia is greater parent buy-in to their children's education. The parent trigger proposal will assist parents with this in both well-established and struggling low performance schools

House Bill 115

If the State Board of Education makes such recommendation, the Governor may, in his or her discretion, suspend all eligible members of the local board of education.  For purposes of this Code section, an eligible member of a local board of education shall mean a board member who was serving on the local board at the time the accrediting agency placed the local school system or school on the level of accreditation immediately preceding loss of accreditation."

Charter Schools

A charter school is a public school of choice that operates under the terms of a charter, or contract, with an authorizer, such as the state and local boards of education. Charter schools receive flexibility from certain state and local rules in exchange for a higher degree of accountability for raising student achievement. Charter schools are held accountable by their authorizer(s) for upholding the terms of their charter.
