A Note From Nancy

A Note from Nancy....

As you might expect, serving on the DeKalb Board of Education since January 3rd has kept me quite busy and engaged. I appreciate all who have written and called me. I am thankful for the opinions and information that you have provided me.

I have heard from many friends, neighbors and parents over the last two week regarding the "Redistricting and Consolidation" component of the Vision 2020 process. I appreciate the many and varied opinions, viewpoints and alternatives that DeKalb citizens have shared with me. Please know that I have read each of the emails and letters I have received.

It is important for you to be informed about the process and understand how you can best advocate for your positions. At the last BOE meeting (1/3/11), MGT of America, presented two different potential redistricting scenarios. These are really starting points in the process. You can view the entire PowerPoint presentation by clicking here.

Additionally, you can view various data sets and maps by clicking here.

DCSS is conducting a round of Public Workshops subsequent to the presentation of these scenarios. Here is the latest schedule for the remaining workshops:

All meeting are scheduled for 630pm:

Thur., 1/20; (Chamblee HS)

Tue., 1/25; (McNair HS)

Wed., 1/26; (Bethune MS)

Thur., 1/27; (Stone Mountain MS)

I encourage you to attend one of the public workshops and let your voice be heard by the team that is working on the logistic and demographic development of the redistricting plan. Based on these meetings, that team will develop one recommendation/plan for the Board. Currently, this is scheduled to be presented to the Board on 2/7/11.

After this recommended plan is presented at the BOE meeting on 2/7/11, there will be public hearings, where you can give your input once again.

Currently, these hearings are scheduled for 3/1/11 and 3/3/11.

The Board is scheduled to vote on the final recommendation on Monday, 3/7/11.

Please check the DCSS website for the latest information and schedules.

I hope having this information about the process is helpful. Appreciatively,

--Nancy
