School Calendar Survey; SPLOST III/CCHS Rebuild Update
School Calendar Survey
As some of you may know, the Superintendent has put forth three calendars for the 2012-2013 school year along with a survey to gather your input on these options. Click here to go to the webpage with the calendar options and link to the survey. Please note that I only became aware of this matter yesterday and expressed my frustration with the lack of notification at last night's Board meeting. I have been receiving many emails on this topic. Thank you for communicating your thoughts and concerns about the calendar. I look forward to continuing to hear them as this process moves forward.
SPLOST III Issue / CCHS Rebuild
Last night we heard good news regarding the SPLOST III issue. No projects will be cut. The COO presented the new approach that allows for some projects to be moved to SPLOST IV. Additionally the district will use a "pay as you go" approach rather than upfront bond financing. This will save on interest costs that were previously built into the program. There are also other adjustments being made to contingency and management costs.
The Chamblee Charter High School rebuild project is to proceed immediately. I expect an updated timeline and more information on the project from the staff soon. When I have this, I will share it with you.
Budget Committee Notes
I am on the Budget Committee and I have placed my notes/minutes for our meetings on my blog. Click here to go to the entry with these documents.
Charter School Discussion
FYI... a parent group is forming to discuss and study the feasibility of a charter school for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. They have asked me to share their contact information with you. Here is the information from their flyer:
If you have a child with a diagnosis of Aspergers or HFA in public school and you live in a metro-Atlanta school district (DeKalb, Fulton, APS etc.) several parents are exploring the prospect of forming a state charter middle/high school designed to work with these kids (their gifts as well as their struggles). The State Constitution allows for state "special needs" charter schools we need parent support to make this happen.
