Update - 5-year plan document
December 12, 2012
From the Georgia DOE website: Georgia law (20-2-260) requires all school systems to develop and maintain a long range comprehensive facilities plan that is updated every five years to be eligible to participate in Georgia's Capital Outlay Program.
Click here to go to the Georgia Secretary of State's website regarding the management of the Georgia DOE Capital Outlay Program. This webpage has several links that specify the requirements of the 5-year plan, how to apply for funding from the state, school size requirements, etc.

I'm currently reading the Harvard study: Achievement Growth: International and U.S. State Trends in Student Performance. One of the observations that jumps out at me is Figure 9 on page 18 of the study. It shows the relationship between gains in achievement and incremental per pupil expenditures. It's interesting to note that Florida had one of the largest gains in achievement, while having the lowest incremental increases in per pupil expenditure. Click here to see the study.
Thank you!
As many of you know, this past Monday was the last board meeting for three members: Don McChesney, Paul Womack and Tom Bowen. I thank them all for their service. Don had some terrific comments and has posted them on his blog. Click here to read them.
Best Wishes,
On December 6, 2012, the Board was presented with an updated draft document regarding our capital spending program and financing. Click here to see the document. This plan is being developed to submit to the State DOE in order to receive state funds for capital projects.
